St Mary’s Trophy

is a fine art car painting of Austin A35’s being pushed to the Assembly Area at the Goodwood Revival 2016. This particular car was driven by Ben Colburn who rolled it shortly after during the race. Colburn, who’d qualified third for the second part of the St Mary’s Trophy race, was running in the pack when his Austin drifted out onto the grass. With the car pitched into a broadside, the front tyres bit into the asphalt and sent Colburn somersaulting into the Goodwood track’s long grass, leaving the poor little A35 looking pretty second hand. – Luckily Ben walked away unharmed and continues to race very successfully.

About the artist

Martin Allen is a London based emerging artist. Martin came to oil painting through a circuitous route, having drawn for most of his life and being largely self-taught he was eventually re-introduced to oil painting as a preferred medium to create his varied and diverse work. The methods he uses to paint are classic ones, using layered paint applications rounded off by oil glazes.

These create, add depth and harmonise colours. He has shown solo numerous times at Goodwood, The Affordable Art Fair and others, been a finalist at the ‘London art Biennale 2019’, alongside various commissions including work for the BP Shipping collection.
