St Malo Cathedral Rose Window
Acrylic Gouache on Paper
Unframed: 56 x 56cm
Signed by the Artist
Certificate of Authenticity
This beautiful circular painting depicts the rose window of Notre Dame Cathedral in Chartres, France.
The Great Rose window of St Malo Cathedral, France, was the 1968 work of the architect Raymond Cornon. It replaced the great rose window destroyed in 1693 during an attack on the cathedral by the English and probably explains why the design is incredibly contemporary for such an historic building.
This painting captures the striking modern design in vibrant and flawless colours, contrasted by the rich dense black of the leading. It forms part of my latest collection which explores modern society's relationship with religion.
