Original artwork description:

This pretty, little church is located in a unique, picturesque setting in the village of Rietz in Tyrol, Austria. Despite its small size, as a church of pilgrimage in a mountainside location, it is well-visited and there's plenty to see when you go inside. The ornate ceiling paintings, other decorations and artefacts and the sense of history are very appealing but what struck me most was the feeling that this is a place that is personally special for many people. There are always fresh flowers at the altar, candles burning and recent heartwarming messages in the visitors’ book. Even on this chilly February day, I was not alone at St Antonius. I painted in my car because of the cold weather and other people came and went on foot. I was full of anticipation as I painted thinking about revisiting this place in summer 2020 (if corona allows!) for my eldest daughter’s wedding. It will be a rather different scene on that day with all the guests in their wedding-day but in this painting, it was the quiet, sunny winter scene that I wanted to capture.

“St Antonious, Rietz” was painted on site in Rietz, Austria on Arches 300g rough watercolour paper using Windsor and Newton paints. It comes with a white mount to fit a standard frame size of 50 cm x 50 cm and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist.
