'Spring Washing Day' is a small, reduction linocut. I've used six colours to depict a cold day in early spring when the wind is blowing the clothes dry on the line.
To make the print, I start with a little watercolour painting which I copy onto the piece of lino. Having decided which colours to use, I carve the lino block, initially taking out the parts that are to remain white. The block is inked then printed with the first colour. The process is repeated for each colour until the design is built up.
I don't use a press, instead, each print is hand burnished for every layer of colour.
The image measures 7cm x 7cm approx. It is printed using water based ink onto acid free, white 200gms paper which is A5.
