After moving to the Southwest desert I discovered that rivers are not always what I was used to coming from a coastal area. In fact, this "river" near my home is sometimes completely dry for months at a time, yet it can also be filled with fast running water from bank to bank. I enjoy the serpentine patterns the water makes, its movement and the light hitting the surface.
"Spring Morning on the River" was painted on location on a 24" x 18" x 1.5 cradled birch panel with oil using palette knives and silicon painting tools. The panel has a protective coat of clear gesso; I allowed the natural wood to read as sand in the foreground. This painting is wired and ready to hang, it can be framed but it is not necessary.
