If you think there is something Van Gogh-esque about this painting, I am flattered. It was, in fact, created for an exhibition by the Belgian Watercolour Society, of which I am a member, paying homage to great historical artists of our choice. As a long-time admirer of Vincent Van Gogh’s work, I chose to use his earthy colors, imitate his bold brushstrokes for the branches, and incorporate a swirly halo around the moon.
Interestingly, this scene is local to me—it’s what you see if you follow the forest track at the end of the road. At an opening in the trees, the hawthorn blossoms in early March, heralding the promise that spring is just around the corner.
