A dramatic black and white photograph of the beautiful Spring Light at Seilebost on the Isle of Harris.
This is from my latest trip to the Isle of Harris in May 2023. Fabulous sharp sunlight is contrasted by the amazing curves of the peat stained waters as they make their way to the sea. While this area is famed for the vivid teal colours, at this time of year, the dark peat is turned up from underneath the sand. I have never seen this before and the drama of the scene took my breath away.
Printed on Canson Arches Aquarelle, one of the most beautiful papers I have ever worked with! Canson Arches Aquarelle has history of this paper goes back centuries. It has a soft structure like a watercolour paper that enhances the image creating a softness and warmth like a watercolour painting.
The print is a 30 x 30 inches image with a 3 inches white border with the signature, editioning and title in the border under the image.
About My Materials
People often say that my images look like paintings because of the richness of the colours, the depth of the black and the texture of the materials I use. Arches-Canson are one of the oldest paper manufacturers in the world, they have been making paper for over 450 years in France. Founded in 1557 and printers to Louis XVI, their paper was used by Voltaire and Napoleon and the Montgolfier brothers used Canson paper to make the first hot air balloon.
Arches paper was used by Picasso, Ingres, Chagal, Miro and many other artists. They have been making paper and canvas for photography since this art began over 150 years ago. Canson are Eco Friendly - they purchase paper pulp for their materials only from forests managed in a sustainable way which also makes them pretty special.
