This new unframed A3 painting is my tribute to the original graffiti and street artists of New York where the movement began in the 70s. I've always been fascinated with this era so I decided to depict a retro can of Krylon spray paint, a brand that would have been used by the original artists of the time. The can is spraying the four exact colours that are depicted on the can that I've illustrated, an effect I created using a miniature paint roller and stencils.
This minimal but boldly graphic piece treads a line between painting and illustration. The paint is applied using paint rollers and sponges while the can is depicted using illustration pens.
I was inspired to create this by some of Lichtenstein's later works, where he would paint the act of painting and drawing in his hard-edged colourful pop art style. That's why I depicted the spray can within the image itself.
The end result is an colourful bold image that would brighten up any room in the house.
It is painted in acrylics on thick high quality A3 paper. PLEASE NOTE: the painting doesn't come framed, but I've taken photos of it in a black A3 frame for display purposes. Message me for potential framed buying options.
