Acrylic gouache paint and Varnish on fine birch ply with gold leaf.

This large-scale colour study comprises individually painted and over painted beechwood panels cut into spots to make a mathematically composed grid.

The paint is carefully blended to a fine enough consistency that it soaks into the birch ply surface leaving the sheen and texture of the wood grain to show through the colour. Gestural splashed paint and brush marks are added to the painted surface then varnished to create a vibrant movement of colours.
