Painted in Inverness on Christmas when it wasn't possible to go outside. This painting won me the Greenshields Memorial Award from Canada in 1977, to enable me to study in Italy for a year at the Accademia di Belle Arti, and has been in my private collection ever since. It is composed of clearly defined areas of colours, each with a distinct contour. Only when the tones/colours cohere does the illusion of reality appear. If one 'piece' of colour is too strong/dark/light etc, the illusion is broken.
Oil paint on Linen Canvas, egg & oil emulsion primer, Damar Varnish
