Prepona praeneste is primarily an Andes species. This is a very rare species that is in few collections of Neotropical butterflies. The unique red color in the band in the forewing of this Prepona easily separates it from all other Preponas with the exception of Prepona buckleyana of Bolivia. The real butterflies are very robust, strong fliers in the tropical forests, measuring four inches across the wings.
Painted to a true likeness in acrylic with ink added over the paint using a calligraphy nib. These small framed paintings are a bright artistic take on real mounted taxidermy butterfly specimens, a celebration of the beauty of the natural world. Framed in a 23mm wide classic flat pure matt black frame, made from solid pine. Crystal clear 2mm acrylic glazing. Shatter proof and 20% clearer than glass. The painting is signed on the front and comes with a signed Certificate of Authenticity attached to the back of the frame. The frame is complete with an acid free double mount and backing board, which protects the artwork.
