Original artwork description:

Ever since a trip to Japan in 2015 I've loved Japanese culture and cuisine. I've painted sushi a few time in the past, but the idea for this painting had been lingering for a while.

It depicts the small, cute plastic fish-shaped bottles of soy sauce you often get with packs of sushi. They're usually just enough for one small serving, and have a red screw-top where the fish's mouth usually is.

And while this relates to my usual depictions of food in a pop art style, I realised it also forms part of a recent unplanned series of paintings, of objects shaped like animals - rubber duck, swan boat, plastic pink flamingo, and now soy sauce fish.

This is also a new smaller size of painting for me, in standard UK paper size A5, hence the lower price. I plan to create a few of these featuring smaller more detailed objects such as this. It comes unframed on high quality paper, but A5 frames are easy enough to find. The final picture shows some of the other Japanese food related pieces still available in my shop.

I love representing food in a simple, graphic style, opting for impact rather than realism. The object is here set against my often used sky blue background.

Size -
5.7 inches x 8.2 inches
15 cm x 21 cm
Roughly 1mm thick

The painting will be packaged in a thick envelope with full tracked postage.

My work, as ever, has been inspired by the classic pop artists like And Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, as well as modern day graphic artists, and food packaging.

Materials used:

Posca Paint Pen, Acrylic Paper (Acid Free)
