Original artwork description:

A rugged mesa raises its flattened top into the Southwest Desert's warm sky, towering above a mantle of sagebrush growing beneath it. Not the easiest hike to view this toughened, weathered highland; but worth each step of the journey. Painted with palette knife to capture the rough feel of rock and eroded earth, and brushwork for the soft desert skies and shifting sands. I wanted to capture the desert's natural charm, as well as its bold toughness. I love applying a palette knife for rocks, especially desert rocks, to capture the various and surprising layers in an array of hues.

Materials used:

walnut oil paints
