The South Carolina lowcountry has always been a favorite subject. Finding this canal with a stand of pines was so typical SC lowcountry. The late afternoon sunlight light up the pines with color. The breaks in the pines allowed our Carolina Blue skies to dapple through. Using a combination of brushes and a pallet knife helps contrast the smooth background areas with the sharp rough foreground. Running your fingers across the foreground, you can actually feel the rough texture. "This is one of the joys of original art with strong brush work."
