This small oil painting depicts the Southampton Civic Centre and the nearby Watts Park at dusk after a rain shower.

The painting is completed in an expressionist manner that contrasts the pale receding daylight against the shadowed building as well as the smooth rain soaked paved surface against the the more jagged architecture and also the difference between the muted blues of the surroundings against the sharp lemon yellow and orange of the electric
lighting.

The painting is made using oil paint on primed canvas stretched over a wooden frame.
