Growing up as a music-obsessed teenager in the 90s meant that I went through several Walkmans to play my cherished cassette tapes on. I'm still a huge fan of music but in the digital age of streaming and downloads I sometimes miss owning a physical, tactile object to play music from.
This pop art style painting shows the once cutting-edge Sony TPS-L2 Walkman in metallic blue. It really was top-of-the-range at the time! I love this style of colourful, chunky 80s Walkman, and I'll be painting a few more.
Movie fans note, I'm told that this is the Walkman used in the Guardians of the Galaxy film, although I've never seen it myself.
This is the latest in a new series of artworks looking at nostalgic objects from the past, painted and illustrated using my distinctive graphic / pop art style. It would make a great gift for any music lover or fan of retro items.
It is painted in acrylics and Posca pen on thick high quality A4 paper. PLEASE NOTE: the painting doesn't come framed, but I've taken photos of it in a black A4 frame for display purposes. So the third picture best represents what you'll be buying.

I've been inspired to create work like this by classic pop artists like Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Patrick Caulfield.
