Original artwork description:

An up-front tangle of arms, legs, bodies and faces coalesces into what appears to be three men and two women mashed together in a heated undertaking of sexual conquest. What's less clear is whether this encounter is entirely consensual, and taking it a step further, whether a form of sexual violence is unfolding here. The fact that an audience appears to be taking in this possibly unsavory scene adds to the growing sense of anxiety and dread regarding the borderline uncivil tone shaping the mood of the piece, and in so doing touches on our spreading impulse as a society to be immune to, or even to enjoy being entertained by, other peoples' forms of human depravity. Even assuming legality is not at issue here, and whether or not the participants are experiencing pleasure in their groping and twisted expressions, or pain and humiliation, through their participation in this activity, voluntary or otherwise, the loss of something of value is assuredly at risk.

Influences, among others, include Max Beckmann, Edvard Munch, Bob Thompson, George McNeil, Richard Diebenkorn, David Park, Francesco Clemente, R.B. Kitaj and Willem de Kooning.
