The artist about her work: "The title is based on a quote from Oscar Wilde "We're all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars". I think, he meant it in another way or more individual, but this pandemic year 2020 (I painted this work in November) was odd, weird, sad. The work is optimistic, free, full of dynamic, it's color- and hopeful - so I choosed the last part of his phrase to depict that despite bad news there is still hope."
Daniela Schweinsberg is a representative of the informal, gestural abstraction. Her works are powerful, colorful and challenging for the viewer. Often the gestural moment dominates the entire rhythm of the artwork. She receives inspiration for her works from many different sources - sometimes it is the color or the material itself that appeals to her, but she also processes the most diverse impressions of her environment and nature.
Starting from the first idea, the images are then created in an intensive dialogue between the artist and the work. In the process, the image itself, its change, its expression, becomes the determining factor of the painting process, whereby the original idea can also take a back seat. Daniela’s painting process is a mixture of impulsiveness and considered approach. The finished works radiate a great deal of energy, the dynamics and spontaneity of the painting process is transferred to the viewer.
