Snow Rat Cabin - original watercolour painting
This scene is from my imagination as a spin on Cinderella. I imagined the rat - who would later be turned into a gallant footman - living with his wife in a humble log cabin deep in the snowy mountains.

In this scene his wife is giving him the news that he is to be called to work in the garden where Cinderella's pumpkins grow...

A charming and unique and original fairytale illustration.
I used hot pressed watercolour paper so that I could paint the fine detail of the rats easily.

The scene features farm buildings and a cabin set deep in mounds of wintry snow - yet the warmth that emits from the window pane and the flickering cauldron flames draws us in. Here rat is chopping wood for the coldest bit of winter...
