This painting is inspired by snow. I love snow and the light, freshness and excitement it brings. Growing up in Urals, Russia we had 6 months of snowy winter and as children spent long and happy hours playing outside. We always waited for snow to come to replace the dark and miserable end of autumn (which was effectively in October). The snow was beautiful, shiny, light, fresh, source of so much happiness and now, of happy memories. During lockdown this Winter (2020-2021) I had been missing snow and waiting for it just the same. It did finally arrive but in the meantime I painted a snowy scene from a year ago - Snow on Silver Hill, captured during my journey home one morning on that maybe only snowy day I remember happened last year. I loved the limited colours, the trees covered in snow and frost and the far away disappearing into the white...
