Original artwork description:

I was preparing to set up a still life when my cat Smudge jumped on the cloth. Her black fur was a nice contrast against the pale drape and green wall so I snapped a few shots to use as reference later.

Over a decade later, I rediscovered the paintings I'd done and decided to touch them up with a more experienced hand. (You can see by comparing the signature on this to my more recent works that I was still playing with how to sign with my newly married name.)

Smudge was an abandoned kitten that I adopted back when I lived in Savannah. A friend of mine discovered her and her littermate taking shelter underneath her car during a rain storm! She turned out to be a wonderful furry family member who has long since crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
