Unveiled: An exhibition dedicated to the stories of patients with blood cancer.

On September 4, 2024, in the premises of the Slovak Art Union and Umelka Gallery in Bratislava, an exceptional exhibition called Unveiled took place, which was dedicated to the stories of patients with blood cancer, specifically multiple myeloma. This project symbolically returned to the place where it was ceremonially baptized a year ago and presented to the public new works of art inspired by real stories of patients.

The exhibition followed the success of the publication Unveiled, which was launched in September 2023. Since then, the publication together with the traveling exhibition has visited many important institutions, such as the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic, the Slovak Medical University and the National Council of the Slovak Republic. The exhibition returned to "Umelka", this time in the form of artworks created on the basis of these stories, which moved and inspired many visitors.

The program started at 18:00 with a ceremonial opening, where the guests were welcomed by Tereza Tomešová, the president of the Slovak Art Union. This was followed by the presentation of the publication and the traveling exhibition itself by Zuzana Gajdošíková, the president of the Slovak Myeloma Society.

Important guests who supported the project during its course also took part in the discussion.
Visitors had the opportunity to see new works by talented artists such as Miloš Hronec, Alica Kucharovič, Katarína Bábska Malíková, and the young hopes of visual arts Yuka Konishi and Zuzanna Kuglasz. These works focused on depicting the personal stories of patients who went through the difficult path of fighting the disease and handed over their works to the Slovak Myeloma Society.

During the evening, the guests were accompanied by the musician František Báleš, who complemented the atmosphere with his accompaniment, and Barbara "Babsy" Jagušák moderated the entire evening.
The exhibition was a great opportunity to combine art and stories about overcoming difficult life challenges and was a significant step in spreading awareness about multiple myeloma.

A big thank you to everyone who participated and supported this project.
Thank you for your support and participation in this unforgettable event, project.

When painting, I was loosely based on the portraits of people from the book Odhalení (Unveiled).
It shows the inspiring stories of three blood cancer patients.
I placed expressive and playful figures next to each other on one format, while each of them has a subtly incorporated symbol on their body of what fills them in life and makes them happy.
My painting speaks of optimism, strength and the will to exist, even though life throws us obstacles. It shows a passion for activities that bring value to an individual or society.
