This small work was done quickly during a session with a live model. That is my favorite way to work because it brings a spontaneity, a freshness, an aliveness that is harder to capture in studio painting.
This is oil paint on a heavy 300 Arches watercolor paper that has had three coats of gesso applied to each side. The advantage to works with this kind of treatment is that they can be framed as you would a watercolor, drawing or oil painting, depending on your taste and style.
I purposely left the top left edge of this photo uncropped so you could see how the edges of the paper look. I like to mount this kind of work on mat board and then cover with glass so that those deckle edges show.
I ship this type of work flat and well-protected in cardboard and acid-free paper. This is the first time this piece has been offered for sale.
