Original artwork description:

During Lockdown , I revisited works that I began when living in Norfolk during the 90’s. I spent 2 years carving Bog Oak, having physically dragged the wood out of the fields that would bubble to the surface of the rich peat soil of the Fens. Sometimes the farmers would drag it out for me when ploughing their land. “The Sisters” came to me as a large piece of Bog Oak that on cleaning, split into 4 hard as iron pieces and became my sisters, my angels of what is good and bad. Begun in ‘94, they have taken many years, in that time they have lived with me as guardians until I finally felt they were ready to leave, as I could do no more to their beauty and power. I intentionally created the heads so they can be repositioned, to create a different atmosphere and thus a new work --- see images. The Bog Oak is 8 -10 thousand years old, is naturally black due to sitting in peat for this time. The measurements are for each Sister. began 90s completed in 22
