This is Brian, local to my area and spent most days dressed in full Sir Francis Drake costume ( in a costume hand made by his late wife) in and around Plymouth. He became somewhat of a celebrity over the past 40 years, visiting schools to teach Elizabethan dance, as a town crier or to open prestigious events.
At his sitting he asked what he should be doing, so I gave him my phone to hold for a quirky contrast...he didn't own a mobile phone and it made him chuckle. He had trouble focussing on it so held it aloft, I thought it looked rather theatrical and so the image was captured.
Sadly, Bryan passed away suddenly quite recently so never got to see his finished portrait.
Deep edge canvas, edges painted black.
Ships secured within a hardboard case.
signed front and reverse.
