I have silver Birch trees in my garden and have always enjoyed seeing them in the landscape where their slim white trunks make such an aesthetic contrast to their surroundings. I've used them as a motif in my monotypes for some time but this was my first interpretation in the medium of etching. I employed a wide variety of techniques to create all the different textures and tones. Having the low autumnal light shining through
is something of an artistic liberty as in real life this would throw the trunks into shadow. But in my art I'm reaching for a visual idea rather than a realistic portrayal of a scene.
This etching was created on two copper plates - tiny grooves and pits were made on each using a variety of resists and ferric chloride. Both plates are inked up in several colours then wiped back carefully before being printed onto damp paper on a traditional etching press (a bit like a mangle if you can remember mangles!) One plate is printed then removed and the second plate is printed on the paper over the top of the first. The plates are inked and printed by hand for every print in the edition.
It comes in an acid-free pale cream window mount. The frame is solid oak with no finish - just beautiful natural wood. It is ready to hang with d-rings and string attached. It is very well packed in a spacious box with protection all round.
I can only send framed work within the UK but please see separate listing for the same print mounted that can be sent to international destinations.
