The title refers to the connection between the East and the West, the ancient silk road as a figure of speech about the interconnectedness of the world.

The woman in the painting who is not literally naked though she looks naked, - is representing humanity in it's vulnerable state.
The medieval headwear with the veil is symbolic showing similarities between the past and the present.
