Signed oil on canvas painting of a woman in silent contemplation. The canvas is square and painted in earthy natural tones of ochre's (close to gold) warm darks and vibrant reds.
One of my favourite past times is simply sitting and people watching. This painting is a direct result of that power of observation as I met the model in a local coffee shop in Falkirk. She was simply sitting there having coffee with a friend when I spotted her. I asked if she would like to model for me and gave her my card. This artwork is the result of that chance meeting.
It is my firm belief people from everyday walks of life, doing everyday things make for a great narrative on canvas. Simply put- I find people fascinating... so don't be surprised if one day ... by chance we meet... and I ask you to model for me.
Process: I often paint in the a gallery which is a very public venue. People who are curious are welcome to take a look or ask a couple of questions as I go about my work. I am always happy to chat and share. One of the first questions I always get asked is how do I do it? Once I have found someone who is willing be my model I usually do a photo shoot with them. I take about 200 shots and from them I will work at creating the painting. I tend to focus mainly on the subject and there is just something about the curve of a neck or down bent head that I find very graceful and peaceful. Consequently it is a position you will often find in my work. I work alla prima (which means wet into wet straight onto the canvas). There is a preliminary sketch for guidance but once I start with the paint instinct takes over. The rest ... well as you can see just happens.
All my work comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. I paint with sincerity and I am always humbled when my work is purchased or admired.
Thank you for viewing my art.
