The highest skill in painting is the ability to convey through a visual image a tangible sensation, for example, smell, softness of wool, texture of fabric, wind blowing, music. Silence is written in this picture. Silence can be depicted in different ways, but here a still life is taken as the basis of the plot. Simple objects - a violin standing upright and a bow, which is not touched by the musician's hand, a clock in a richly decorated wooden frame, on which there is no second hand - they are silent, stopping, or they measure the time, but in such a way that we cannot feel it. The theatrical mask lying next to it is empty and faceless. It seems that the actor has just filmed it, having played his role, and is resting somewhere behind the stage.
The painting uses the coloristic square of the masters, which is why the painting looks very and harmonious in its whole color. The contrast of warm brown shades of natural wood and black drapery against a pale blue background will be preserved in a dark silver frame in a classic style.
