Original artwork description:

The Google Earth Landscapes project is an attempt by means of traditional fine arts using traditional media (oil on canvas) reflect the change in the perception of the planet Earth by people and especially by artists.
Global networks and new technologies of social connectivity completely changed our understanding of home and homeland relatively even recent past.
Now an artist, like any other person, is more than just a resident of his region doomed to perceive or to represent his environment locally and offline, but an inhabitant of the global world to whom through the constant connection to global networks are available almost all texts and landscapes of the Earth.
We cannot ignore the fact that in our digital age planet Earth has become smaller. Often on social media people mark their location not as #Berlin or #Palermo, but as #EarthPlanet. This designation of one’s location is not always irony. We believe that this is exactly new perception of oneself and one’s place in the world and in the Universe.
It is difficult to overestimate how this planetary-scale way of thinking change our relationship with the planet Earth and make us to rethink our place and purpose here. Events of 2020 only confirm the importance of communication through the global network and the impact of this connection on all industries, including (especially) on art.
GOOGLE EARTH is not only “the most detailed globe” or tool that allows “to travel without leaving your seat”. It is even more that global search machine or the biggest geo data source, but also a global machine of visualization of our world on a planetary scale. For artists Google Earth is an instrument that opens an access to the boundless pictures of our planet. This visualisation is machine-made therefore unbiased and objective which is make GOOGLE EARTH an ideal ground for artist’s comprehension, reflection, and processing. The globality and universality of the GOOGLE EARTH make artists more connected with each other like never before. We all have key to the same data but our way of processing it is unique and that is why GOOGLE EARTH has a great potential to contribute to the development of contemporary art.
Thanks to GOOGLE EARTH a modern artist has a new opportunity to create a landscape painting which is not just a representation of the nature or local surroundings, but to explore unlimited and borderless world and to reflect this experience via art.
