Original artwork description:

Panthera tigris tigris. Perhaps we think of tigers living in warm climates however the largest members of the species are found in the cold climates of Siberia, notably the far east of Russia and north-east China. It is thought that fewer than 600 are still living in the wild. That figure has been boosted by a significant recent emphasis on conservation. A male Siberian can weigh as much as 300kg and typically has a particularly dense and long winter coat.

Also known as the Amur tiger and in fact the term ´Siberian´ only came into use in the 1830s. These tigers have a mark on their foreheads that looks like the Chinese character for ´King´or a similar character meaning ´Emperor´and consequently are revered by Chinese people.

This original oil painting, with a fairly friendly faced tiger in the snow, is painted in a representational style with a generous amount of detail. Painted using the very best quality materials. Supplied ready for framing on a sturdy hardwood stretcher.

Materials used:

professional quality oils on linen canvas over a hardwood stretcher
