A lot of things added to the creation of this picture. The challenge was to base a piece on Belgian Renee Magrittes "Lovers" or "The Son of Man". People in hiding seemed most appropriate to me, as it was a life we were living during the COVID lock-down. However we could get out to the allotment and as time progressed escape to nearby hills.
Meanwhile a friend was using the cover of 'essential work' to meet up with a special friend ... hence the suit jacket and tie. The yellow dress to counterpoint the blue in the skies. The hillsides in the background representing Shropshire which I travelled past a lot due to medical needs (with consent) during lock-down.
Strange times produce a piece which can be read into by many in different ways. "Les amants" are real people, hence the face shapes are different to the original. The male on the left almost lion like.
This is another from the Art Challenge between a group of artists who got to know each other in and around Hereford. Setting challenges for each other, either based on an artistic style, medium or subject.
Image 18 x 11.5 cm (c 7 x 4.5") is completed in gouche on watercolour paper. In a dove grey mount within a black frame 22.5 x 17.5 x 1.5 cm (9 x 7")
PS it is worth putting in a search for The Lovers Renee Magritte Images and seeing all the wonderful variations that have been created by many different artists over the years.
