Original artwork description:

This is one of a series of drawings made from life in Tokyo, Japan last year. The more I would study the sprawling city as I drew the previous pictures, the more it would reveal small interesting pockets to me. At first I hadn’t even noticed that I could see the famous Suitengu Shrine that was nearby. When I noticed the dark curves of the Shrine roof poking out on the corner of the block it had to become the title of the picture. I love the mixture of traditional buildings, values and beliefs and modern development in Japan, they seem to fit together seamlessly.

Materials used:

Oil Pastel on 160gsm Black Paper
