Original artwork description:

Here is my first shadow box. I was compelled to express myself in an alternative way to painting ! It is a one of a kind original surrealist sculptures using found objects as mixed media. It reflects my new awareness to reduce my impact upon the world by recycling items to make art.

After I was diagnosed with cancer I was not able to paint when recovering from surgery. I spent my days cutting out from newspapers and vintage books. I was drawn to curios and macabre images and researched art assemblages like those of Ed Kienholz. I chose to keep it quite organic rather than coating it in resin. However, the final piece may owe more to Duchamp than Kienholz!

This final piece was completed after my surgery when I was feeling much better. I think this is reflected in the slightly humourous images I have picked ; for example the old lady peering round the open hippo mouth !

I hope you like my shadow box! It comes with a hand written certificate of authenticity. It has 2 D rings and no wire as it will need to be suspended by level hooks to hang straight due to extra weight of box on one side.
