Original artwork description:

Acrylic painting on canvas.
This painting was finished in my studio from some quick sketches and some photographs I took at the scene,
This painting depicts a rain shower over Waternish on the Island of Skye in Scotland.

For this painting I first painted some texture medium on the canvas to create a rough surface to reflect the ruggedness of the scene.
I then painted a traditional style scene depicting a rain shower moving quickly over the distant hills of Waternish on Skye.
After the painting dried I then mixed up a bluey glaze and covered parts of the painting with it before quickly removing areas to reveal sunshine underneath.

This is a technique I have been developing recently and I like the effects it can give however the final stage of removing the glaze before it dries can be nerve shredding as hours of work can be ruined.
Finally when dry the painting is given two coats of matt varnish to protect it.

Materials used:

Acrylic paint with some texture medium
