I painted this in June 2020, when the covid-19 lockdown restrictions were easing. It was a time of hope and also concern about a possible second wave. It was painted with only three colours, Mars Black, Payne's Grey (one of my favourites) and Pale Umber. The result is close to monochrome.
The title comes from the feeling of sheltering from the storm outside, both literally and metaphorically.
Paint was initially applied with brushes, this wet paint was then spread with a wooden bar to create the background. After drying more paint was added using the edge of a long palette knife.
It is ready to hang and would suit a variety of settings.
Acrylic paint brushed over canvas, spread with a palette knife, left to dry then more paint added with the edge of a long palette knife
