Original artwork description:

‘Shangri-La’ is a mixed media collage/assemblage presented in a glazed, soft wood box frame. The image is 30cm x 30 cm, with the framed size at 36cm x 36cm. The box depth is 3.5cm.
‘Shangri-La’ is inspired by observations made from a coastal walk along a once famous and popular Victorian route which runs through the Birkdale Hills Local Nature Reserve, Southport, UK. The Velvet Trail is named after the lush green vegetation seen in the summer months and includes diverse habitats for a variety of birds, dragonflies, butterflies and natter jack toads.
The artwork is made using textured papers, tissue paper, canvas fabric and white acrylic paint rubbed into the surface. The image includes a photograph transfer which shows a section of dried earth with an imprint of vehicle tyre tracks. Collected natural objects and the words ‘of earth’s past prime’ are also arranged across the collaged surface.
This work intends to capture and raise awareness of what surrounds us and the ways in which we interact with these environments.

Materials used:

Textured papers, tissue paper, canvas fabric, white acrylic paint, photograph and collected natural objects
