This work is part of an ongoing series of portrait paintings of Native Americans. The paintings depict Native Americans in a variety of poses and settings. Some of the paintings are traditional portraits, while others are more abstract. All of the paintings, however, share a common thread of beauty and dignity.

McAfee was struck by the shaman's role in the Native American communities as a healer and spiritual leader. McAfee has also said that he was drawn to the shaman's serene expression on his face, which he saw as a reflection of the shaman's deep connection to the spirit world.

"Shaman" is a powerful and moving portrait that captures the essence of the shamanic tradition. The painting is a reminder of the importance of spirituality and the interconnectedness of all things.

This painting was made using oil, acrylic & pastel on 16x20in. canvas, placed in hand-built, wooden turquoise floater frame.
