Original artwork description:

«Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors», sanguine, thread, acrylic on canvas, 130x90cm, 2023
I send in a roll with stretcher which can be stretched independently or in a baguette workshop.
Through reinterpretation of the work, I create a light that pierces through the shadows and absorbs the colors of my emotions. Depicting the unseen in our lives, interweaving the past, future, and present – it's a true symphony of creativity.

Reflecting upon "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors" by Kotsiubynsky, I cast a new narrative. Using fairy tale therapy, I've made changes to the story – where Mariichka, embarking on a quest for a lost sheep, doesn't fall from the cliff into the mountain river. The river is too shallow for her to drown, where the enchantments of the Carpathians safeguard their descendants' land, rather than oppose it, where the hands of ancestors reach out from behind the heroes' shoulders, enveloping them in the mantle of devoted protection.

Dancing allows one to sense freedom and the ability to express without words. In this piece, I've envisioned Ivan dancing between Mariichka and Palahniuk, liberating himself from all worldly trials, as weaknesses of character dissipate to the rhythm.

It's crucial to note that fairy tale therapy is effective according to individual needs and characteristics.

My drive lies in fortifying my emotional state. To me, it's true healing – the ability to effortlessly alter shades and narratives within a work.

I modify the plot to uproot ossified convictions about "a difficult fate," "an unhappy tale," "it was and will be tough," "nothing can change."

Materials used:

Acrylic, sanguine, thread
