My natural inclination is to concentrate on details within my images. I love intricate patterns and love decorative art, colour and line. However, I also admire simplicity and often wonder what it would be like if I were to minimise certain details and solely concentrate on shapes and the sensation I want to instill in my work. To pare down to the essentials. Additionally I wanted to reveal the wonderful marks and textures which linocutting gives, reminiscent of woodblock cutting and a small nod to Kirchner's woodcuts which I find so inspiring. I hope the overall impression is one of calmness and beauty.
Please be aware that as I have used a monoprint base and that each of these prints vary quite differently from the other. This is a small edition of only 10. The one photographed is an artist's proof.
Please be aware that the margins of the print have some marks and show the many layers of monoprint which went into producing the leaf pattern you can see from under the linocut print.
I think these signs of inexactness go onto affirm that these prints are not machine made or digitally perfected, but authentic, handmade pieces of art made solely by the artist!
