This image was captured on a little road-trip from Paris to Arles for the 2009 Les Rencontres d'Arles (Arles Photography Festival). We did a quick stop in historic Le Puy-en-Velay - famous for it's lentils apparently, but also one of the starting points of the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route.
Wandering around having a nosy in the back-streets whilst looking for a good local cafe for lunch these two facades caught my eye. There is something about them that - for me at least - feels very typical french, although clearly in need of some TLC. I've always found delipidated or derelict buildings interesting with it's weathered textures and faded, often flaking colours.
