Original artwork description:

‘Sere’ is a mixed media collage/assemblage presented in a glazed, soft wood box frame. The image is 20cm x 20cm, with the framed size at 24cm x 24cm. The box depth is 3.5cm. ‘Sere’ is one of a series of assemblages in response to rural landscapes.

‘Sere’ is inspired by observations made during a walk on a cold day in the hills and lanes of a rural landscape. Similarly to others, the piece intends to capture and raise awareness of the subtle qualities within our surroundings.

‘Sere’ combines the subtle texture of tissue paper, canvas fabric and threads, together with torn pieces of photograph. White acrylic paint has been rubbed into the surface and the words ‘with ivy never sere’ are embedded into the image. Found pieces of tree bark and a twig have been arranged across the collaged surface.

Materials used:

Tissue paper, canvas fabric, threads, photograph transfer, acrylic, found objects
