SEQUOIA is from my series of abstracts on hand-built, cradled wood panels.
This highly textured abstract is tones of blues, white, warm red/brown. It has mixed media with texture, acrylic plus the original texture of the wood shows through. It is a heavy piece, best hung on a sturdy hook or nail.
Sides finished in black (deep, 1.5")
Finished in protective varnish
Signed on the back
Ready to hang*****************************
I create art because I love color, pattern, textures. I prefer abstracts over realism and I like to combine colors based on what I see in nature, the landscape and various feelings they convey.
My process is varied -- I either work on my textured and linear abstract landscapes when I'm feeling more controlled or throw caution to the wind and work on a very uncontrolled abstract that uses color to bring forth an expressive feeling.
Living in the desert SW, I often use the glorious sunsets we get to inspire me, but sometimes my inspiration comes from a great jazz tune that's playing on Pandora or a good old movie on TCM I like to listen to in the background when I paint. I just go where the eclectic sound and paint takes me with Cary Grant, Bette Davis or listening to Frank Sinatra, Brazilian Jazz, Brooks & Dunn, Kid Rock or Nickelback (I said eclectic!).
