SEMBIANZE - Mixed media on panel cm.44x44, oil enamel and varnish -
Nature and spirit, the two faces are nothing but two expressions of the same being: one stronger, more evident, manages to prevail over the other, its shadow. It is the marriage of physicality and spirituality. The main source of my inspiration is the face, and its mask, being and appearing, and since it is more important to appear, the mask becomes necessary, because the mask we wear every day before going out is how others identify us. I try to look at the other side of myself from the outside, in the vain search for my own identity. The enigma of one's own image, an identity that in many people is equivocal, overshadowed, counterfeit. In fact, the faces portrayed show thoughtful expressions some, absent others, obscure, fascinating, penetrating, caught up in the common need to ‘be such’ and not to ‘have to appear’. The search for one's own identity, which leads to true self-knowledge . The awareness that everything in life is semblance. Authentic work executed by me in a single copy.
