"We are never real historians, but always near poets, and our emotion is nothing but an expression of poetry that was lost." (from Gaston Bachelard, 'The Poetics of Space').
Sometimes we find paradise in unusual places...
The image 'seeking paradise', is from the "In Defense of Daydreaming" series, in which I am exploring the use of photography to express poetic themes. It was shot in a town at the foot of Machu Picchu called Aguas Calientes amongst the jungle flora and fauna. I fell in love with the banana leaves: such bold, dramatic plants. Machu Picchu is indeed a wonder - a type of paradise, I suppose. But I kept coming back to the secret folds and seductive curves of this humble plant.
This black and white series of photographs is shot exclusively in black and white on very fine grain film, with an ancient but beloved TLR Rolleiflex camera. The film is then scanned and the final image assembled in the digital darkroom.
Please note that artwork is supplied unmounted, but a mount cut to any size can also be supplied at a small additional cost. For certain works, different size requests can be accommodated. Please contact me for details.
This artwork will be printed with a half inch white border unless otherwise requested.
All limited edition artworks now include an archival, signed limited edition label on the back of the print.
Your artwork will arrive wrapped in plenty of acid free tissue paper and rolled in a very sturdy postal tube.
