Feel the looming shadow of a tall rock of serpentine sat imposing over the Cornwall coastline. Inspired by an artist residency at Coverack, Cornwall, and the view from the hostel window. I was amazed by the dramatic contrast of the ancient rock cliffs against the brilliant blue of the Atlantic sea. In my Scarborough studio, I captured it all in this abstract painting after returning home. Layers of acrylic colors form the strong shape of the abstract clifftops and the clear sea.

The dark blue navy and purple top of the cliff descends gently, colour shifting from deep dark to blues as the tones shift from rock to water. In this artwork you can nearly sense the crashing of waves against the coastline, the brisk wind in your hair coming off the sea. The painting is a peaceful yet powerful image that will bring a sense of serenity to any room.

About
In my abstract landscapes, geological patterns are quietly immersed in colour. Juxtaposed with my glazes of soft atmospheric paint layers, I use drawing or collage to draft half-obscured strata of rock and cliff.... Read more
