The village of Watendlath is at the top end of Borrowdale in The Lake District. Accessible by a narrow road that twists and turns up and through the steep sided valley the traveler passes the famous 'Surprise View' overlooking Derwentwater and back to Keswick. The narrow road continues past another famous viewpoint Ashness Bridge (in essence an old pack horse bridge) until you get to the small hamlet of Watendlath (owned by The National Trust).
Painted outdoors in a quiet part the village behind the cottages with Watendlath Beck at my feet, this mixed media painting depicts the first days of Spring in this beautiful part of The Lake District.
Watendlath was used by Sir Hugh Walpole as a setting for the fictional home of Judith Paris in his haunting Herries saga, a series of four novels published in the early 1930’s.
When buying this painting it will be dispatched carefully packaged in a large thick cardboard box with the artwork generously mounted (3 inch surrounding the artwork at least) and cellophane wrapped with a back board secured behind the artwork that is the full size of the mount.
The original mounted artwork will then be placed between sheets of thick cardboard. Further cushioning with bubble wrap will be included to the sides of the artwork in the box to protect it.
