Seahorses are one of the most fascinating and mysterious creatures in the oceans.Their unique, majestic charm has captivated mankind for centuries. They are sometimes difficult to find in the wild, except by experienced divers, due to their chameleon-like ability to change colour and camouflage with their habitat.
This oil painting is a depiction of that mystical status. I painted the context around three individual seahorses to deliberately obscure their form from the viewer, giving them a magical dreamlike quality. The unusual and strange sense of scale adds to the mystery.
