The second of a pair of seagull paintings I made quite a few years ago. They turned up recently in a forgotten drawer in my studio.
It was made during a trip to Mallaig, a popular fishing port on the west coast of Scotland. Where there are fishing boats you'll find lots of seagulls!
This hard working seafarer is checking out the ropes in a professional manner.
The paint is gouache which is not my usual medium, although I used it all the time when I was a student. It has a flat chalkyness to it which I like. Lots of colour, detail and texture makes these two works lively and fresh.
The pair could easily be sent together as one package.
