This is a limited edition from my series Books I Would Have Illustrated if You had Written Them!
This is Scuba Santa and has over 100 digital art images that border a multi-medium illustration. I love the ocean and and I love cartooning to relax after doing detailed artwork or editing my children's book illustrations on the computer!
I teach art, so I showed my illustration to my students and said that the multi-medium image was too delicate and I could manipulate the colors to make them bolder, but I wanted it to remain "watery" because of the subject. I explained I would tie it together by making a digital border. I could have made the border with a repeating pattern, which would focus the viewer on the illustration, but a great illustrator goes the extra mile--children want to hunt out the details and it is good for their fabulous brains, so I came up with dozens of both festive and ocean themed objects for a kind of "I Spy" interaction with the viewer.
